Hackney Brew House

This project at Pratt, guided by Professor Stephanie Bayard in 2014, was for a brewery and pub in the Hackney neighborhood of London. Working with partners Dane Borda and Ilir Jorgo, we proposed a project celebrating the brewing process, in which the brewery was not only visible to the pub, but extended over the street.

After careful study of the brewing process we decided to emphasize the activity and complexity of the movement of ingredients. By proposing hanging the fermenters above the pub and street, this celebration is extended beyond the confines of the back of house space. The huge structural load resulting from this decision led to the use of a “mega truss” spanning throughout the building.

This group project was published in InProcess, the Pratt’s School of Architecture’s annual publication of student work.
